Tennis Lessons for Kids

You may not immediately think of Hawks Cay Resort when you think of tennis resorts. (Our waterfront paradise here on Duck Key makes it perfectly acceptable for you to choose us for the ocean, our pools and those signature Florida Keys sunsets.) So you may be surprised to learn how in-depth our tennis offering is: Hawks Cay Resort is a Cliff Drysdale Tennis facility, and our tennis pro, Michael Stedronsky, is certified in Drysdale techniques to provide premier instruction to players of any experience level – including kids ages 8-13.

For your younger traveling companions, choose between our private tennis lessons for kids and our junior clinics, which many of our guests refer to as “tennis camp.” The clinics are one-hour programs offered four times weekly that introduce young guests to tennis techniques, movement, stroke production and rallying in a no-pressure group situation. The clinics also incorporate tennis games for kids and other playful ways to approach the sport. And while Mr. Stedronsky’s knowledge of the game is extensive, parents and participants come away praising his ability to keep players who are young and new to the sport involved and excited. (Giving young travelers a chance to meet and spend time with other guests their age is an added bonus.)

For our younger guests with some tennis experience, private lessons can be both effective and fun. Or, make it a shared experience and reserve a lesson together.

Following a clinic or lesson, you’ll appreciate knowing that our eight courts – four championship hard courts and four Har-Tru clay courts (renovated in winter 2012) – are regularly open for guest use from day into night, with some courts lighted for evening play. For your convenience, our resort pro shop rents and sells any equipment you might need. That means you can keep practicing, or even competing, together whenever the mood hits.
