Happy Earth Day from Hawks Cay!

April 20, 2022

With Earth Day upon us, we want to take a moment to celebrate the wonders of our local environment and the resources it for provide for us and our guests. Being located in the picturesque middle Florida Keys, we enjoy the best of our flora and fauna with the Everglades to the west and the Atlantic Ocean to the east. We know that if it wasn’t for the beauty and sustainability of our unique setting, guests would not be able to experience our immersive outdoor activities like exploring the backcountry with a fishing guide, paddleboarding through a mangrove canal, swimming with dolphins, floating in our saltwater lagoon, and much, much more.

To celebrate Earth Day, we invite you to explore more of the Florida Keys and learn about how you can help conserve our precious resources when visiting by stopping by a few of our favorite eco-focused attractions:

  • Visit to the world's first licensed veterinary hospital dedicated to the treatment of sea turtles, Marathon’s Turtle Hospital, to see the turtles in rehabilitation and learn how we, humans, can protect the environment and not pose additional risks to their livelihood.

  • Learn about coral reef restoration and enroll in an exploratory dive program at the Coral Restoration Foundation in Key Largo. Coral Restoration Foundation manages the world's largest coral nurseries, raising critically endangered coral species and planting them along the reef tract.

  • Explore Tavernier’s Florida Keys Wild Bird Center, home to a variety of rescued native and migratory birds. The facility provides a habitat for some sick, injured, and orphaned birds that cannot safely return to the wild.
