LOCAL ARTWORK, COASTAL DESIGN DEFINES THE REIMAGINED HAWKS CAY

DUCK KEY, Fla. – March 27, 2019 – Hawks Cay Resort in the Florida Keys is becoming an art destination in itself.  The popular resort reopened as a reimagined, complete getaway last fall following a $50 million renovation with a new design throughout inspired by its coastal surroundings.  The design element that centerpieces the renovation is the recent addition of marine artwork by well-known local artist B.J. Royster.

Hawks Cay’s décor, designed by Looney & Associates, blends the resort’s casual vibe with a beach-chic theme that captures the essence of a modern Florida Keys lifestyle. A palette of white and ocean blue tones with whitewashed oak and hints of tropical yellows and greens are featured in the guest rooms while public spaces create intimate living room settings with custom-designed furniture set up to invite guests to relax with family, a group of friends or even solo with a cocktail and a good book.

The Resort ownership paid special attention to ensuring the distinctive culture of the Florida Keys is celebrated through local art.  B.J. Royster’s oversized paintings adorn the walls throughout the newly bright and welcoming lobby.  Known for her photo realism, underwater scenes and ocean-inspired abstract artwork, Royster notes “My artwork has become a voice of education, protection and conservation of our fabulous Florida environment.  In speaking with children who have seen my artwork, I am able to encourage them to be ambassadors and caretakers.  The art becomes a bridge to knowledge.”

Vice President Managing Director Sheldon Suga promises “The new décor of Hawks Cay Resort combined with Ms. Royster’s brilliant art surrounds our guests with the wonders of the Florida Keys and inspires them to open their arms and hearts to the warmth they find here. We’ve received an incredible response to the reimagined resort experience.”

Ushering in the next phase of this legendary resort’s iconic history, the debut of the upgraded Hawks Cay elevated its status as a leading, one-of-a-kind vacation experience in the Florida Keys. The $50 million dollar renovation focused on the main hotel including 177 guestrooms, public areas, and the addition of two restaurants, as well as an expansion of the adults-only area.
