Tour Duck Key by kayak - rentals and tours available
There’s no better way to get to know an island than by kayak. Trace the shoreline; follow the ins and outs to see where they may lead. Stumble on a personal encounter with the natives – on Duck Key, that includes fish, sponges, manatees, egrets and herons inhabiting and alighting on turquoise water. Drink in the panorama so stunning, you’ll be moved to photograph it and make the moment forever yours.
"...stumble on a personal encounter with the natives – on Duck Key, that includes fish, sponges, manatees, egrets and herons..."
The Florida Keys kayaking experience is one you simply must have. And so, Hawks Cay Resort invites you for a paddle. Our Florida Keys kayak tour begins in the still of mid-morning. Bring a hat, sunglasses, sunscreen (and waterproof camera if you like); we’ll supply your vessel, paddle, lifejacket and a bottle of water. We launch directly from the resort’s floating dock and spend two hours exploring the surrounding area. Your kayak tour guide will lead your group on a course customized to the tides and conditions of the day, which may include open-water paddling, island-hopping and beaching your kayak periodically should you crave cooling off with a brief dip in the water. Whatever course your eco-tour follows, it will be accompanied by your guide’s narration as he or she identifies birds and sea life along the way and entertains you with the formation and history of Duck Key. You’re sure to hear how a golf game allegedly decided ownership of the island, and how more than one U.S. president has visited our slice of paradise – most notably, Harry S. Truman. Reservations are required for our guided tour.
For paddlers who wish to chart their own course, Hawks Cay Resort rents single and double kayaks by the hour, half- and full-day. Prior to launching, we provide paddlers with an aerial view of the area and suggestions regarding which sights not to miss. Let the expanse of the open water meeting the sky fill your senses; then retreat to the flats and shallows to quietly glide past mangrove trees and the animals they shelter. Pick any canal to float by luxury homes and boats, or make the paddle out to tiny Tom’s Island to tie-off your kayak and step onto castaway sand. Eye for other sandbars and isles where you can pause for a swim or a picnic. With a half-day, you can even reach a sunken ship sitting in clear, shallow water. After a paddle like this, when you think “kayak Florida Keys,” you’ll think Duck Key.
