The sport of sailfishing was at its best in the Florida Keys when Hawks Cay hosted the inaugural Sailfish Open, March 5-8, 2009. The weekend-long tournament, part of the Sailfish Pro Series, brought together 18 teams of professional anglers as well as amateur enthusiasts for competitive catch-and-release fishing in the waters around the resort's home on Duck Key.

The Sailfish Open was the fourth out of six tournaments in the Sailfish Pro Series, which concludes in May with a Post-Season Fish Off and a $100,000 first place payout. Congratulations to Advanced Roofing on a spectacular win with six fish caught earning $107,915, followed by Screen Print Plus/Prize Fighter with five releases earning $75,610 and third place went to Rock Star with four releases winning them $41,350. A fleet of 30 boats released a total of 52 sailfish.
