Keys Fishing Reports
November Fishing Report November 1, 2013
From the Desk of Managing Director Sheldon Suga
Greetings anglers, and welcome to the Florida Keys!
I’ve heard a lot of people say that the reason they love fishing in the Florida Keys so much is because on any given trip they just “never know what they might catch.” While this statement is generally true year-round, it’s even more accurate during the month of November, when a wide variety of trophy species can be caught throughout our local waters.
On calm days, November is a great month for stalking permit and bonefish on the nearby Middle Keys’ flats, using both fly and spinning tackle. It’s not uncommon this time of year to have a shot at some of the largest bonefish you’ll find in the islands, often in excess of 10 pounds!
On those windy days (and November does have its share of windy days), light tackle anglers still have plenty of options. The calm waters of Florida Bay and Everglades National Park offer non-stop fishing action for a number of species, and provide an ideal fishing environment for families with children. You’ll catch your share of snapper, grouper, redfish, snook, seatrout, resident tarpon, sharks, and more!
On the reef, cooling water temperatures should really turn on the bite. Target mangroves, yellowtails, and mutton snappers on the patches and deep reefs, and don’t forget to drop a large bait down to the bottom in hopes of landing a keeper grouper as well!
Offshore, November offers a chance to catch exciting pelagic game fish. Dolphin (mahi), sailfish, kingfish, tuna, and wahoo can all be caught just a few miles from the resort! It’s important to be rigged and ready for anything that may swim up behind the boat or crash the surface on a ball of bait. The professional captains and crews at Hawks Cay Marina never leave the dock without a variety of baits and rigs ready to cast at a moment’s notice, and neither should you!
For more information on what’s biting in November stop by the Hawks Cay docks. Our captains will be happy to take you out for an unforgettable day of fishing in the Florida Keys, where you really never know what you might catch!
