A:Hi Lauren, We have a height requirement rather than an age requirement for participation in our Dolphin Discovery program. All participants must be at least 4'6" tall to enter the water with the dolphins at Dolphin Connection. Guests who do not meet this height requirement or who do not wish to enter the water may be interested in our Dockside Dolphins program which is completely hands-on, but takes place out of the water on our floating docks. Regarding the children's activities at Hawks Cay Resort, they do not take place at Dolphin Connection, but you can read more about them on the website at http://www.hawkscay.com/kids_teens.php Thanks so much for your inquiries. Maja asked :reservation Q:Hi. I will stay in your resort in April for 3 days with my family. How long in advance do I have to make my reservation for my 45-minutes swiss with the dolphins? Thanks for answering.
A:Hi Maja, Because your visit to Hawks Cay falls during our busy season, I would recommend making your reservations with Dolphin Connection as soon as possible. A reservations agent will be happy to help you. We look forward to seeing you here!
Andy & Terri Auner asked :dolphins and dogs Q:Is it commonly known that dogs and dolphins communicate? Our dogs (Louisiana Catahoulas) know long before we do that there are dolphins nearby. We live on a spring-fed river to the Gulf of Mexico where dolphins come and go. Our very well trained dogs will jump off the boat and play with the dolphins. The dolphins come up to our dock and "call" to the dogs if they are not outside. It is quite fascinating. Does anyone know how common this is? Thank You.
A:What an interesting story! We do know that both dolphins and dogs – as well as many other animals – have very good hearing that extends into frequencies much higher than what we can hear, so it wouldn’t be unlikely that they could hear each other long before we hear them. Also, many dolphins and dogs are very intelligent, curious and playful so it would make sense that they might be drawn to each other. Like all wild animals, dolphins’ primary focus is survival, which includes finding food and avoiding predators. It may be that they feel safe enough in this river tributary of the Gulf of Mexico where your home is located that they can enjoy some play time. Whatever the explanation, it sounds like you, your dogs and the dolphins are all enjoying it greatly. Have fun!

A:Hi there, Great question! You do not need to be a guest of Hawks Cay Resort to participate in Dolphin Connection programs - anyone at all is welcome. You will, however, need to make a reservation so please call in advance to schedule your program. We look forward to seeing you here!
